TOUR ITINERARY

Getting there: Take an international flight to Santiago, Chile, then a 2 hour flight from Santiago to Calama. We will fetch guests at the airport and drive them to the Hotel de Larache (1 hour drive - 100 kilometers (62 miles)).

Explorations in Atacama will allow you to become acquainted with the multiple aspects of this region: its geography, history, fauna, and geological features, volcanoes and ancient villages. Explorations have been designed to allow for gradual acclimatization to the altitude. Some excursions take place in the vicinity of San Pedro, between 2,500 and 3,000 meters (8,200 and 9,850 feet) above sea level; others are at intermediate levels between 3,000 and 4,500 meters (9,840 and 13,120 feet); and the most demanding reach heights of up to 6,000 meters. (19,680 feet)

During your stay you may feel the challenge to see more and perhaps reach higher altitudes. We feel that this is not a competition. Our aim is: "Here each person decides what he does". It is as enjoyable to simply go for a walk, ride a bicycle, or relax at the hotel as conquer the high altitude peaks.

The weather in the Atacama is pleasant throughout the year. Consequently there are usually no limitations to taking all the excursions on any given day.

Each day our guests can join a variety of explorations; walking, horseback riding or biking. You can choose from 8 to 10 different options which have been specifically selected according to the weather, guests' desires, the duration and its difficulties.

All explorations are accompanied by our professional guides and are available at all levels of abilities to explore the nature or the history of Atacama. Be in the Andes experiencing the power of heights of more than 4,000 meters (13,120 feet), enjoy the volcanoes and plateaus or visit the small villages with their traditions and folklore.

As in life, there are things that we cannot control. You might experience windy conditions in Patagonia or an unexpected rain on Easter Island. But fortunately, as in life, those moments will not only get you closer to those with whom you are exploring, but also give you real stories to share over a gourmet dinner or the best wine.

We encourage a new way of travel in the remote regions of the Southern tip of South America combining the pleasures of urban life with surprises of the wilderness.

Our territory is South America, one of the least known and explored areas in the world. Traveling to this corner of the world promises an unforgettable voyage and a grand experience. Here you will find freedom, few inhabitants and unique places to explore from beginning to end.

We suggest a philosophy of travel born out of the desire to explore the natural and cultural environment of remote regions at the Southern tip of South America. It is a vital experience. A feast for the senses, and repose for reason.

We do not expect the journey to reach a peak, aiming at points of maximal attraction, from which one only «returns» after arriving. For us, the interest is in the journey itself. Every voyage will correspond to its nature. As in life itself, to enjoy every moment, we do not anticipate the end. "We travel not only to arrive at a destination, but just for the pleasure of it".

We explore places whose mystery and splendor is unforgettable. We believe the best way to discover something new about the World, nature or ourselves, is to travel in small groups to enjoy first hand the inscrutable beauty of things.

The architecture of the hotels makes it possible to inhabit the remote. It intends to reveal its mystery, without solving it. At the same time it offers the means for sustaining local traditions and preserves the quality of the environment.

Traveling to South America promises an unforgettable trip and a grand experience. This vast and remote region has its backbone with the Andes mountain range and the Patagonia area. Here you will find freedom, few inhabitants, and places to explore that are unique from beginning to end. South America offers a journey through history: the anthropological and archaeological wealth found here along with the vitality of present-day villages are testament to the past and guardians of traditions. All enrich a visit to this region.

DESTINATION

Between the Pacific Ocean and the Cordillera de los Andes, Atacama is an immense extension of land and mystery. Desert and oasis have been agents of repose and of change for the pre-Columbian Andean cultures of South America. The remains of their past are landmarks in the area; their present shares with other cultures in the maintenance of their traditions, giving life to small villages. Cordilleras, volcanoes, salt flats and hot springs add natural splendor to human culture.

The Atacama culture had an important agricultural development and produced particularly beautiful textiles and metallurgy. Their lands were the commercial crossroads for the peoples of Bolivia, Argentina and the Pacific coast.

In Atacama it is possible to appreciate multiple features of this history, expressed in archeological monuments, cemeteries, churches and villages. The traditions still live in religious festivities, in its crafts and in the local folklore.

CLIMATE

San Pedro de Atacama is an oasis located 2,443 meters (8,015 feet) above sea level, connected with the Calama airport (Chile) by a 100 kilometer paved road (62 miles).

Between January and March, the so-called Altiplanic Winter, comes with occasional showers. For 10 to 12 nights each month there is an astonishing moon, which impels you to go for a walk. On other days, you can enjoy the darkness of the night which makes the stars shine as in no other place on earth.

The climate is magnificent throughout the year, with more than 90% of the days being radiant. During winter (June, July and August) the average daytime temperature varies between 9ºC (48ºF) and 24ºC (75ºF); days are very pleasant, inviting you to relax under the sun.

In summer (January, February and March) the average daytime temperature fluctuates between 13ºC (55ºF) and 25ºC (77ºF), reaching maximums of 32ºC (90ºF): a warmer climate tempting you for a good "siesta" before the afternoon explorations begin.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

As a result of the valuable efforts of the Turkish Ministry Of Tourism, the travel insurance is now obligatory for all travelers by law. In addition, we kindly would like to aware you that most of the countries and their related consulates require a health insurance with a minimum coverage limit of Euro 30.000 to confirm your visa.

During your travel, you may have some health problems and high expenditures accordingly. Lost baggage, robbery, lost ticket, law issues, etc. are also within the possibilities of a travel. We highly reccomend a travel insurance to financially protect yourself abroad.

HEALTH INSURANCE

If you do already have a health insurance please double check if it is valid in and out of Turkey and if it covers also lost baggage, robbery, lost ticket, law issues, etc. Please be aware that some insurances are very cheap and do not cover most of the above mentioned topics. Please do not forget that the coverage limitations of an insurance is the most important thing to know.

TRAVEL CANCELLATION INSURANCE

Most of our products are valuable, non-refundable, having an advance purchase period of 2 or 3 months. After making the payment, it is not possible to get a refund and if you need to cancel your trip under specific circumstances, you should have a cancellation insurance to protect your financial loss. It is at your own risk to have a cancellation insurance or not.

We are always at your disposal to assist you in purchasing any travel, health and/or travel cancellation insurance. For more information, please apply to one of our travel advisers either by e-mail or phone.
